I am trying to keep it simple, however, some users modified it to enable smilies, I think they did it by modifying the code block that replaces bad words.

Bob, abuse is avoided by the image verification code. Spammers use automated scrips that will not be able to post comments. Also you can have a list of 'bad words' to be filtered in case you don't like some of the content users post, the words you chose will be replaced with dots ...
